Friendly Cup 2025 Report

England Retain the friendly cup in Newtownards! ⚪

On day 2 of the friendly cup all was to play for!
The overnight scores were 18-14 in England’s favour.

 

On day 1 in a close encounter a number of games went the distance!
In the morning session Chris Johnston and Chris Mitchell drew 1-1 with the former securing the 2nd game by one point!
Eugene Rogan defeated Ian Whiting but again the margin of victory was 3 points in the 2nd 150 up game!

 

After the short matches the ties were level at 8-8.
In the 90 minute matches Rob Hall had breaks of 288 and 279 to score over 900 in his win.
Nathan Mann had a scare against Korbin Lowe needing an unfinished break to steal the match by 2.
Other close games saw Chris Mitchell edge out Alastair Macdonald.
Dave Gillingham got his first points in an England jersey defeating Chris Johnston taking the overnight scores to 18-14.

 

On day 2 in the morning session NI closed the gap to two points, with Kenny Campbell defeating Dave Gillingham 2-0 and Eugene Rogan beating Eddie Fielding 2-0.
Ian Whiting got his first point for England with a valuable 1-1 draw with Paul Lindsay, whilst Nathan Mann got a 2-0 win over Chris Johnston.

 

In session 2 England took 7 points from 8, with Gary Norman getting a vital 1-1 against Christian Kirk with a 64 break in the second game.
Rob Hall had a 150unf in his 2-0 win over Alistair McDonald, Chris Mitchell beat Korbin Lowe 2-0, and Chris Achilles got 2 points against Keith Savage.

 

The penultimate session of the day saw England with an 8 point lead.
They maintained this with a 4-4 draw.
Chris Mitchell claimed a great scalp over Christian Kirk scoring consistently throughout, and Chris Achilles had a notable win over Paul Lindsay.

 

In the final session of the day the breaks came quickly. Nathan Mann scored just shy of 600 in his win over Eugene Rogan with breaks of 108,107 and 85.
Gary Norman had a 112 in his win over Alistair McDonald and Rob Hall also was in fine form in his win over Korbin Lowe.
David Gillingham defeated Keith Savage to ensure England retained the friendly cup with a scoreline of 40-24 .

 

A big thank you to Alistair McDonald and Keith Savage for all the work behind the scenes to get the venue in great shape to host the contest and to all the Northern Ireland team for their hospitality, and great spirit.
