The Amateurs’ Break Competition
LIST OF WINNERS
At the conclusion of each afternoon session of the professional
tournament at the Soho Square Salon, the amateurs
who were present amongst the spectators had the opportunity
of competing for the handsome prize of two cues in a
polished wood case, which was awarded weekly during the
28 weeks over which the Tournament extended to the maker
of the largest break from a set-up position. The red ball
was placed on the billiard spot, the white ball on the centre
spot, and the cue ball near to a top pocket on the natural
angle line for the cross in-off. It will be noticed from the
subjoined list of results that the winning breaks averaged 35
and it may be added that the maker of the highest recorded
break of 58 (Mr. R. J. Bullett) was presented by
Messrs. Burroughes & Watts, Ltd., with one of their
“Billiardiners”a handsome combined billiard and dining
table:
