Woodside Round-Robin
Played at the Woodside Snooker Centre in Norwich, the 1999 event
involved three groups of four players competing in one-hour games.
All proceeds from the day went to finance junior coaching.
Phillip Welham (West Acre) was unbeaten in Group A recording
breaks of 120, 122 unfinished and 113 in his three games. However,
the top break of the day went to another Group A player, David
Nichols (Erpingham) who made a run of 145.
Fred Ellis, owner of the Woodside Snooker Centre, won all his games
to top Group B, narrowly defeating Norfolk Junior Champion Gary
Lewis (Norwich) in the deciding heat. The Group C winner was
Calvin Daws, who finished ahead of Fakenham’s Arron Spencer on
aggregate scores.
Junior Billiards Handicap
Thirteen year-old Calvin Daws (Scunthorpe) won his first “major”
trophy by defeating James Roberts (Norwich) in the final of the
Norfolk Junior Billiards Championship. The event, which attracted
a total of 16 entries, was held at the Woodside Snooker Centre on
Sunday 29th August.

Boys’ Billiards/Snooker League
The first season of the combined billiards and snooker league has
reached a successful conclusion with Division One (16-19 year olds)
being won be the Woodside “A” team of James Gurling, Gary Lewis
and Paul Gifford. Division Two (10-15 year-olds) went to the
Woodside “B” team, for whom Gavin Lewis recorded the highest
breaks in the League at both snooker (39) and billiards (47). The
innovative format saw the teams of three players matched in two
frames of snooker and 45 minutes of billiards.
