In Brief
Battle of the Champions
David Rees took his eleventh Derby Billiards Championship title from
former eight times winner, Jim McCann with a 500 – 418 result.
Wilson’s Big Break
Watch out for a 2nd appearance of Robin Wilson on BBC TV’s Junior
Big Break when it’s screened later in the year.
The Teesside 14 year old recorded the show recently, were not allowed
to divulge the outcome of the show but suffice to say the English Under
19 Billiards Champion did well.
New venue for the Championship Finals
The final stages of the English Amateur will be held at Darley Dale next
season having been held at Nuneaton for the last 3 years.
A suggestion to have the Billiard Championship Finals played alongside
the EASB Snooker Championship finals in the late May bank holiday
weekend was rejected. The EABA tournament calendar will be
completed in mid April in line with the wishes of many of our
competitors.
A G M Date
An Annual General Meeting has been scheduled for 17th March 1999
with the election of Officers of the Association being among the agenda
items to be discussed.
A Dinner will be held at the Reardon in Stoke with an ABC the following
day. Get the date in your diaries please, it could be a good opportunity
of giving our ladies a rare (in my case anyway) day out related to our
billiard activities.
Record breaker?
John Hartley, who competed in this year’s under 19
championship, has been elected Chairman of the Teesside
Boys Billiards League at the age of 19 yrs 2 months. Is this the
youngest League Chairman in the country?
Prudent Policy
Prior to receiving our 1998/99-budget allocation of £2,500 from the
EASB we have some £1,400 in our accounts after another year of
prudent operating by the Association Committee. Only the Junior
Championships ran over budget allocation with all other events within
budget. The Committee is maintaining its commitment of prudency in
order to establish a season’s finances in reserve.
Champion of Bath
A former Teessider has won a title in the Bath Billiards and Snooker
League. Chris Rowntree a player some 15 years ago in the Boys League
for Thornaby Snooker Centre has taken their Senior Individual
Championship.
